Thinking Of A Baptism
They want to join in saying ‘Thank you’ for the miracle of life and we would like to help you do that. A Baptism is sometimes also called a ‘Christening’
PreparationA baptism is a very important event in a child’s life, which only happens once for each person and so we make careful preparations. Each month there are baptism preparation evenings held for those who are thinking about bringing a child for baptism. This is a good opportunity to have a look at the words of the service, to go through its meaning and to talk together about the Christian faith. Parents and godparents are warmly encouraged to attend a baptism preparation
evening at The dates for these in 2007 are: Tuesday 17th January Baptism services are held most months in All Saints church at 3pm The dates of baptism services to be held during 2007 are: 21st January If you would like to attend a baptism preparation evening, or talk about attending a service of Thanksgiving or a Thanksgiving followed by a baptism either for yourself or your child, do phone: Rev’d Anette Love: Cards and candlesAt the Baptisms service a special candle is given to each child Baptism cards are also presented Come alongBaptism is about becoming a member of the God’s church, so why not come along one Sunday and see for yourself what goes on! 10.30 to St Albans ( which includes a Sunday club for children) or 6.30pm to All Saints, The church family will be very pleased to see you Who may be baptised?Any person who lives in Heath or Holmewood (or who lives elsewhere but attends the church) may bring a child, or come themselves for Baptism ThanksgivingPrior to coming for Baptism we ask you to bring your child to a thanksgiving service. We say thank you to God for the birth of your baby and ask a blessing on your family. Thanksgivings will take place during the 10.30am services at St Albans on Sundays: A Thanksgiving service does not ask you to make any promises and you do not have to be a member of a Church to take part in it. Some people prefer to only take part in a Thanksgiving service and then to leave open the possibility of baptism later as a child or an adult. GodparentsGodparents will themselves have been baptised. Usually a boy has 2
men and 1 woman You will consider carefully who you are going to ask to be godparents to your child, but do think about choosing someone who, along with everything else will often pray for your child. FeesWe do not make a charge for baptisms but because of the high cost of
running the church we do appreciate it if you put a reasonable (but
entirely voluntary) donation into the collection plate
